The wood is nice and sturdy and the scew has a flathead end so you can tighten it good!First, I want to thank Hobby Trend for helping with the unfortunate incident of what was a hoop delivery gone wrong. After reaching out they took the time reaching out to USPS and continued to keep me updated throughout the process of trying to find the rogue package. Unfortunately said hoop belongs to some other home or has fallen into a wormhole and has hopefully travelled back before the time of 2020. Thanks for keeping me updated and helping me with the issue.I just received my replacement today and it's great!Love this hoop, its light and sturdy. Great quality for the price and holds fabric really well. Properly secure your fabric and you will love this hoop!Far sturdier and more secure than the plastic or flimsy ones, but I find it difficult to tighten properly. It keeps slipping and needs frequent tightening.Counted cross stitch is a favorite hobby of mine. Finding a quality hoop to hold fabric taut for stitching is a challenge. This wooden hoop is smooth, so that nothing snags, and no splinters are imminent. The screw locking mechanism is of high quality and easily adjusted. I am very impressed with the quality of this product, especially given the price...a great value! Thank You!This hoop is fantastic. I ordered a really nice hoop from France that wound up being too large. Not wanting to wait another month I ordered this one and it's just as good of quality. Very smooth finish, no splintering like the ones you get at craft stores. I'm using this to display crosstitch that I made for someone and it is definitely a nice display quality that I feel confident giftingMuy buena calidad. Es igual a los que usaba mi abuela.I'm using this hoop to do embroidery. It is a very high quality item and functions with perfection. Holds the fabric taut with no slipping. Also, the sender, Hobby Trendy, did an outstanding job packing this item for shipment. I would purchase this beech wood hoop many times over & definitely would buy anything from Hobby Trendy.Debbie Martin
